COURSE DESCRIPTION:
An introductory course designed to provide opportunities
in various modes of art production. In addition to art
production, students will explore the areas of art history,
art criticism, and aesthetics. Emphasis will be placed
on becoming familiar with the art elements (line, shape,
form, color, texture, value, space and time). Students
will begin with 2-dimensional art: introduction to basic
drawing skills, shading and rendering, color theory and
application. Students will then move on to 3-dimensional
art that will include basic hand building techniques in
clay construction. This course will also cover research
projects related to art careers and may include participation
in art competitions.
*This course description serves as a general outline and
may be subject to change. |
GRADING CONSIDERATIONS:
The grades received in this class will be based on your
effort, growth, progress, and responsibility – I
will not compare your work with another student’s
work. The following are guidelines that I use to measure
your area of growth and development:
Skill Development: This area is considered your “technique”
and is based on how well you are able to handle/use
certain materials or tools.
Conceptual Development: Concept refers to the main
idea or thought
behind your work. What are you trying to
say through your art? This is also referred
to as your “expression”.
Compositional Development: This reflects
your ability to arrange your
images in a manner which best conveys
your ideas. Good compositions are
dynamic, balanced, unified, and have a
clear focal point or area of interest.
