DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Digital Photo I is an introductory course designed to familiarize students with the basic skills needed to take digital images and enhance the images using a software application (Adobe Photoshop Elements). Emphasis will be placed on both the technical and artistic aspects of digital photography. Once students have become comfortable with the functions of the camera and software, projects will be introduced. Projects may include explorations in: photojournalism, still-life/advertising, portraits, and macro/close-up work.

Digtital Photo II will continue to explore different styles and methods of composition in photography. Special emphasis will be placed on development of a portfolio for art colleges or career development. Students will become familiar with the functions of a Digital SLR Camera. Enrollment is subject to teacher's approval.

*This course description serves as a general outline and may be subject to change.

GRADING CONSIDERATIONS:
The grades received in this class will be based on your effort, growth, progress, and responsibility – I will not compare your work with another student’s work. The following are guidelines that I use to measure your area of growth and development:

Skill Development: This area is considered your “technique”
and is based on how well you are able to handle/use certain materials or tools.

Conceptual Development: Concept refers to the main idea or thought
behind your work. What are you trying to
say through your art? This is also referred
to as your “expression”.

Compositional Development: This reflects your ability to arrange your
images in a manner which best conveys
your ideas. Good compositions are
dynamic, balanced, unified, and have a
clear focal point or area of interest.
