A student is placed on academic probation based upon unsatisfactory performance for a marking period (quarter/semester). Unsatisfactory performance means one or more of the following criteria have been met:
Earning a GPA below 2.0
Earning (2) or more D grades
Earning one (1) or more F grades
Once a student is placed on academic probation he/she will remain on academic probation for the entire subsequent marking period. During this period a student is not permitted to represent the school in any activities (clubs, performance, field trips, and athletics) for a minimum of a two week period. Administrative clearance to resume participation in activites does not remove the student from academic probation (KSM High School Student and Parent Handbook, 2008-09, pp 17-19.).
In an effort to assist with student success and to achieve higher levels of excellence as a learner, the following requirements are in effect for students on academic probation:
Lunch time study hall sessions.
After school study sessions four days a week from 2:40 p.m.
– 4:20 p.m.
Office hours with class teacher, if course grade falls below a C.
Daily planner and homework monitoring.
Parent(s)/guardian(s) conferences with the Academic Performance Coordinator.
Parents/guardians should check KS Connect to review their child's grades. Grades are updated every other week (refer to SY 2008-09 Grade Check Dates).
