About the Author

Kalani Rosell is a member of the class of 2007. He has been a competive age group swimmer since he was ten years old and currently swims for the Lahaina Swim Club (joined March, 2006). Previous to this, he swam for the South Maui Sharks, Maui Swim Club, and Hawaii Swim Club.

At the age of 12, Rosell was ranked first in the nation for the 11-12 age group in the 100 meter breaststroke and second in the 50 meter breaststroke. He has set seven Hawaii State swimming records, three individual and four relays, and seven County of Maui swimming records, six individual and one relay. He currently holds one state and seven county records.

In high school swimming, Rosell has five individual and two relay MIL titles. He has finalized at the state championships in the 100 breaststroke and 200 Individual Medley both his sophmore and junior year. In his junior year, he was a member of two relays that also finalized at the state meet.

In the summer of 2006, Rosell traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to train for one week under Olympians Michael Phelps, Ian Crocker, and Lenny Krayzelburg. Later, he went to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to attend a one week intensive swim camp under Bob Bowman, Head Coach of the University of Michigan.

Also in the summer of 2006, Rosell qualified for the 2006 World Aquathlon Championships that was held in Lausanne, Switzerland. He placed fourth representing Team USA's Junior Elite division in this competition.
