The Maui Campus High School Swim Team began in 2003
under Head Coach Stephanie Campbell and Assistant Coach Kyle Nishimitsu.
In the team's first season, 2003-2004, seven swimmers qualified
for the HHSAA State Swimming and Diving Championships. The team
continued this pattern and has had swimmers competing in the state
meet ever since.
The Team
The team is composed of year-round age group swimmers
and anyone else who would like to join the team. Training begins
in late November to early December and continues through to the
end of February. Practices are held every day of the week from 4
pm to 6 pm (times are subject to change). High school meets are
usually held in the afternoon on Fridays or Saturdays.
The swimmers compete in a series of eight individual events
and two relays throughout the season. At both MIL Champs and State
Champs, swimmers are allowed to swim a maximum of two individual
and two relay events.
In the 2005-2006 school year, the boys team, with only
six swimmers, captured Kamehameha Maui's first MIL swimming title.
The following year, the boys team repeated their performance, taking
the 2006-2007 MIL swimming title.
Head Coach
In the 2006-2007 school year, the swim team came under
new Head Coach Jennifer Bullock. She has been swimming for more
than twenty years and competed for California Polytechnic State
University, San Luis Obispo. While there, she earned a BS in Kinesiology,
an MA in Multicultural Education, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and
Instruction. She has coached the Kamehameha Swim Club on Oahu for
three and half years and high school and club teams in California
for eight years. She has also been a synchronized swimmer, on the
national and international levels, for fifteen years.
