CALCULUS (Math 205 or 206)

Being enrolled in this class means that you have successfully completed Precalc. w/ Trig.. Congratulations!

Calculus is a dual credit course in which you may earn both high school and college credit. It is taught here on campus by Dr. Alfred Wolf, a Maui Community College professor. Dr. Wolf comes to my classroom 2 days a week for assistance and lectures. I am here everyday, giving guidance on the coursework he requires.

Class meets Monday through Friday for an entire semester. This course is one credit and grading is as follows:

A = 100% - 90%

B = 89% - 80%

C = 79% - 70%

D = 69% - 60%

F = 59% - 0%

Your grade is an accumulation of your points divided by the total possible.

There will be about 20 exploratory group activities, 10 online quizzes, 4 communication problems, 3 take home and in class tests. There is a variety of bonus points available throughout the semester, ranging from interviewing the professor to completing extra math exercises.

More detail on the various types of work and their scheduled due dates are handed out at the start of the semester.

Attendance is crucial to success, as most concepts in this course are things that you haven't seen in previous math classes. Late work is accepted up until the test day.

Dr. Wolf's goal for Math 205 is to cover calculus topics such as limits, derivatives, rates and integrals. In Math 206, the additional topics covered are approximations, physics, covergence and series.

Always come to class prepared and ready to go! Basic materials are: pencil, paper, calculator, ruler, completed or fully attempted assignment, DERIVE software and an open mind!

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

We look forward to working with you this school year!
